SYBARITE
UK

Sybarite is an architectural and design practice that aims to tease all of the human senses and to sculpt architecture into the living environment in which it exists, whilst retaining complete functionality. The practice draws its passion and inspiration from organic forms in nature as well as technologies transferred from other industries. Striking a balance between actual projects and experimental projects is crucial to enable them to remain at the top of their game.
Sybarite was formed by Torquil McIntosh and Simon Mitchell in February 2002. Torquil and Simon met whilst working at Future Systems and quickly realised that they had matching design dreams. Both believe design can and should fulfill the twin briefs of functionality and pleasure and that there should be no boundaries between art, sculpture and architecture. The word ‘Sybarite’ encapsulates their design – voluptuous, luxurious and pleasurable.
Sybarite is passionate about furniture and has already produced two exclusive furniture collections that were launched at London’s ’100% Design’ furniture exhibition in September 2005. The ’100 Range’ was Sybarite’s first luxury furniture collection comprised of beds, chandeliers, tables, sofas as well as ceramics. The ‘Soozar’ collection was created exclusively for the Shanghai based furniture company. This collection includes tables, sofas and prints for wallpaper and upholstery. A third collection entitled ’200 Range’ will be launched later in 2007. This collection of 16 new pieces will be targeting a more commercially priced market. It will include modular seating systems, stacking chairs, tables and beds.
Sybarite is an RIBA registered architectural practice based in London, UK. Sybarite has many representatives worldwide in major cities and is fully capable of handling geographically dispersed projects.
