The SEE project has launched the third edition of the SEE bulletin, the only publication entirely dedicated to matters related to design and innovation policies across Europe and beyond.
In his research paper Design for Social Innovation: Creative Communities and Design-Oriented Networks Professor of Design at Politecnico di Milano and a leading expert on sustainable design Ezio Manzini explains social innovation and how design can play a role in this context. Jean Schneider, from the Agence pour la Promotion de la Création Industrielle (APCI), provides a summary of the 7th European Conference on the Challenges of Design Promotion, which debated the role of design in empowering citizens and stakeholders to facilitate grassroots initiatives and in informing new policies. The Design Policy and Promotion Map illustrates the growth of design policies and programmes across the globe and presents two countries from Africa, Botswana and Kenya as well as interviews from Brazil, Latvia and Poland. The third edition’s case studies feature the Innovation by Design (Ireland) a design support programme which guided six SMEs through a design approach to understanding client needs and identifying the right ideas to commercialise; and Ecolizer 2.0 (Belgium) a smart tool that enables designers to incorporate eco-design into innovative products, launched by The Public Waste Agency of Flanders.
