The 4° World Map: visualizing the impact of climate change

Friday, October 23, 2009 14:24

Here’s what the world could look like if the global average temperature rises by 4° C, above the pre-industrial climate average.

The 4° World Map, is an interactive map that makes it possible to visualize some of the impacts that may occur due to global warming. The map was launched on October 22 2009 by David Miliband, UK’s Foreign Secretary and Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and produced with public funding by the UK’s Met Office Hadley Centre with the aim of increasing people’s awareness of the human impact on climate change and stressing how crucial it is that successful agreements are met at the Copenhagen summit this December. The map represents the latest peer-reviewed science on the impacts.

Using the map: This interactive version of the 4 degree map allows you to select which impacts you want to see, zoom on specific geographies and access more information about the science behind the map.
