The non-profit Danish organization INDEX: Design To Improve Life is hosting its third edition of the INDEX: Exhibition in Kongens Nytorv Square, Copenhagen; a large-scale open air exhibition showcasing the finalists of over 700 designs nominated for the 2009 INDEX:Award.
Selected by an international jury the nominated designs – products, services and systems – are judged by a criterion based on their capacity to improve life on a global scale on issues which range from climate change, disease, water scarcity, health and safety, and carbon emissions. This is reflected in the five categories of the design competition: Home, Work, Play, Body and Community.
Five (one per category) of the exhibited designs will be rewarded with a prize of 100,000 Euros financed by the state of Denmark at the INDEX:Award ceremony in Copenhagen at 18:00 GMT on Friday August 28 and worldwide online at designtoimprovelife.dk
This year INDEX has opened the competition to the public with INDEX 2009:People’s Choice, an initiative enabling people to participate in the design competition by voting for their favourite design online at www.designtoimprovelife.dk and connecting with Facebook. The winner of the INDEX 2009:People’s Choice will be awarded with “The Egg”, a chair designed by Arne Jacobsen and announced at the award ceremony on Friday August 28.
